What A Great Day For A Root Beer Float!

Every day is a great day for a Fosters Freeze Old Fashioned Mug Root Beer Float. It is made with our famous creamy vanilla soft serve and plenty of delicious Mug Root Beer.

The history of the Root Beer Float according to several places on the web, is that it was invented by a Pharmacist named Frank J Wisner at his soda shop in Cripple Creek, Colorado in the 1890s. It is said that the ice machine broke down one day and left no way to cool the sodas he sold, so he began adding ice cream to the sodas, and the float was born. By the way, the first ice machine was invented in 1851 and patented in 1853.

Just think that before the ice machine, and refrigeration, ice cream was virtually unknown. If it was known, it would have to have been only available in winter where they could cut ice from the river or lake!
